Culture is the spirit of a nation and the source of national cohesion. It is the gem of knowledge, wisdom and arts of generations. However, economic globalization has gravely impaired minority cultures. Some of traditional minority cultures are at the edge of extinction or have already died out. Many local governments are not aware of the importance of national culture. Due to the inadequate laws and regulations and the lack of administrative measures, national cultures are under no legal protection for a long time.During recent years, Inner Mongolia started to work on preserving national cultures, especially minority cultures. Nonetheless, there are many flaws in the legal system; laws and regulations are not implemented effectively. There is more that needs to be done. This study takes Inner Mongolia minority culture as an example, focuses on the status quo and weakness of the legal system, and proposes to improve legislation in the end. Inner Mongolia did not take enough measures to protect cultures. Imperfect lawmaking, ineffective law enforcement and inefficient judicature lead to the extinction of minority cultures. |
