The Social Work Intervention Of Rural Nursing Homes

Population aging is the natural law social developmen,and it is also one of the major problems confronting the world today.For old people now,we should not only help them to solve the problem of food,clothing and housing,but to meet their higher spiritual needs when the basic survival conditions are achieved,especially in rural area where economic conditions are rather backward.With the development of the society,and the progress of science and technology,many rural surplus labor moved to city,and empty nest elderly and the old people who live alone appeared in rural areas.these old people need someone to provide them with more physical and emotional help.To solve the problems of old-age care in rural areas,now a lot of villages and towns have established public nursing homes,but these nursing homes lack professional nursing workers.It’s barely possible to meet higher demand of the elderly,except to provide basic routine care.This paper is about to discuss social work intervention in the rural nursing home and to solve the problems of all kinds of the elderly in nursing homes by using social work knowledge and skill,to meet the higher spiritual demand of old people.Through the field visit to the central nursing home in Yangmiao town,and the integrated use of the methods of interview,observation,literature,etc.,the author investigated various aspects of the nursing homes and here are the problems existed.For the nursing homes,there is the low rate of bed utilization;staff shot-age,the lack of service concept and professional skills,and the staff’s negative emotion during the service,etc.;For those old people,they lack the necessary family and social support,and the dying old men lack certain care.There are also problems about the conflicts between them and the difficulties in adapting to the lifestyle of the nursing homes.For those problems existed in the rural nursing homes,the author proposed the design of social work intervention in the rural nursing homes.First,to analyze the feasibility and necessity of the social work intervention in nursing homes.The necessity should be analyzed from the present situation of nursing homes and the analysis of the advantages of social work;The feasibility should be deducted from the practical experience,national policy,talent base and local equipment. Secondly,to analyze social work intervention models in the nursing homes,which includes two.One is to enter the nursing homes as the identity of government staff.The other is as the staff of social work agencies.Finally,it is to provide methods of social work in nursing homes for the old people,the staff and the old people’s families respectively,to solve the problems existed in rural nursing homes and to improve the old people’s quality of life in the nursing homes.
