On Xi Zhongxun’s Historical Contribution During Northwest Period

Xi is the proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation, one of the main founders and leaders of the Shaanxi-Gansu border revolutionary base area. After 1945, he served as the secretary of the Northwest Bureau of the Central Committee. After 1952, he served as the Minister of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the secretary-general of the State Council, the vice-premier. Later, owing to the injustices of "Liu Chih-tan novel ", he was exiled and imprisoned for 16 years. One year after the end of the Cultural Revolution, he made a comeback and governed Guangdong. Then he was transferred and served as the secretary of the Central Committee Secretariat of the CPC central Committee, the member of the Political Bureau, vice chairman of the NPC Committee and so on. Xi made a great contribution to the revolutionary base area, to the construction and the liberation of the northwest and to the promotion of reforming and opening in Guangdong.The historical contributions of Xi in the northwest period were mainly presented in: as establishing revolutionary base area, Xi personally went to Soviet of the northwest and studied on the spot. Based on the basic theory “seek truth from facts”, he utilize the Marxism-Leninism and the Mao Zedong Thought flexibly, and mobilize the masses actively to established the Shaanxi Gansu South beam revolutionary base area, giving our party a place to settled down for strategy shifting and providing an opportunity to the Red Army to take a break. In terms of military struggle, Xi participated in the revolution in his early years, he learned and gained experience in a variety of struggles. He summed experiences and lessons of launching armed uprising and creating armed revolutionary. He always implemented the Party Central Committee "of workers and peasants armed separatist" mentality, and gradually raise the "Jiaotusanku" multi-regional development of military strategy. These strategies provided the right guidance for Shaanxi Gansu and the Red Army to start guerrilla war, and provided a strong military support for Shaanxi and Gansu edge revolutionary base area. In terms of united front, Xi realized that the united front from the northwest cannot only start with the minority, but unified the northwest as a whole. And the Democrats and democratic parties were also the power that cannot be ignored. Xi flexibly used the "three-thirds" principle to make a distinction between science democratic parties and local gentry. He protected democracy in the land reform, and unite every single man. He was the exemplary person that implemented the Party’s United Front policy. In terms of minorities, Xi always adhered to the pragmatic spirit of exploration, the generosity political accomplishment and the approachable work style. It is because of this style of work that Xi can make "steady advance prudent" approach in dealing with the Northwest Ethnic Problems.Xi’s historical contribution during the period of the Northwest has given us a lot of inspiration: As a Marxist, always make a flexible use of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought to solve problems, always insist on the theory “seek truth from facts” theory, always analyze specific issues and resolutely oppose dogmatism and empiricism; always insist on extensive research and proven methods of work, the correct lessons are learned from practice and also test the feasibility of their policy theory with the practice; always insist on the theory that close contact with the masses, only in this way can effectively integrate everything to make the work carried out smoothly and make the development of the Northwest region more stable. Xi as the main builders of the northwest, he studied the problems in various fields. Duning twenty years, he has always been in continuous learning and exploring Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and takes them as a guide. On the basis of focusing on the investigation, he insists on seeking truth from facts, closing to the masses. The studies and researches of Xi’s historical contribution in the northwest can provide some references for thinking and solving contemporary Northwest problem.
