As the result of the Chinese Civil War six decades ago, the question of Taiwan has a dual nature. It is not only a relic of the past but also an actual problem to China. The issue is rooted in China’s internal affairs. But today it involves increasingly complex international factors. From the geo-political view, Taiwan is more important to Japan than it to United States. Even though the United States is the main external obstacle to the reunification of China by now, Japan’s role is in the region and will be the directly obstacle to cross-strait unification. Therefore, there are important theory meaning and realistic meaning to the study of Japan’s role in cross-strait relations after World War Ⅱ.With the rising of Taiwan’s strategic in "Scalene Triangle" relations, Japan has been putting much emphasis on Taiwan. In Japanese Congress, has always been groups which are pro-Taiwan and anti-PRC. Why Japanese right-wingers’strategic ambition of controlling Taiwan is unbounded, the main causes are the following:the cultural link, the worry about security threats of China’s power expansion and the policy goal of containing China. Since the end of World War II, Japanese government has a long history of pursing "two-China" policy either openly or covertly. Before the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations, Japanese maximize its benefits by pushing "two-China" policy. Since the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations, Japan’s right-wing forces pursing "two china" policy from open to secret. It could only give secret support to Taiwan against China. Since the end of the bipolar pattern, driven by Japanese right-wingers, Japanese involve itself openly in the Taiwan issue. Not only deepened the difficult of cross-straits’peaceful reunification, but also threats the peace around the world including Japan. |
