In the history of China, Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties is a period of turmoil,the years of war made society full of corruption and despair. People lived a hard life, and thetraditional ideology degenerated gradually. Under this condition, Buddhism which came fromIndia at the end of Han Dynasty had the opportunities for development because of its doctrineand other reasons. It won support among people gradually, shifting from the marginalizationwhen first introduced to actively involved into the social mainstream ideology, culturaltransformation successfully. At this period, Buddhism had no doubt affecting all aspects ofsocial life. Academic community paid more attention to the impact of Buddhism on literature,economy, art, philosophy and folk-custom of Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties,The paper consists of two parts, that is preface and text. The preface focuses on someresearch in this area. And the text is divided into three parts:The first part: The popularity of Buddhism in wei jin southern and northern dynasties. Asa superstructure of country, the generation and development of law institution would certainlybe affected by the social economy, culture and other factors. The prevalence of Buddhism inthis period, influenced and referred to all aspects of social life, including legality. Therefore,one should have a thorough investigation of the prevalence of Buddhism and its reason toflourish before studying the influence of Buddhism on Wei Jin Southern and NorthernDynasties.The second part: The reflection of Buddhist influence on the legality of Wei Jin Southernand Northern Dynasties. In the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, the society is unrestand truceless, people didn’t feel safe. Based on the doctrine promotion and suitable social soilfor development, Buddhism has attracted the underclass, the literati and the rulers. Due to theinfluence of Buddhism, the legal level of the country changed with the factors of Buddhism,mainly reflecting in the administrative law, economic law, criminal legal system.The third part: The evaluation of Buddhist influence on the legality of wei jin southernand northern dynasties. On the basis of the above discussed, this part summarized thecharacteristics of the influence of Buddhism on wei jin southern and northern dynasties andthe evaluation of the influence of Buddhism on legality. It’s believed that,despite its doctrinecan attract people and bring spiritual solace, more important reason for the Buddhism canhave impact on legality is the needs of the rulers to maintain their rule.
