Study Of Relationship Between Public Awareness Of Disaster And Dissemination Of Disaster Information

When enter the21th centry, China, as an emerging country in all aspects ofecomomic, political, cultral, has experienced many catastrophic invasion. Thesenatural disasters sometime can have some huge impact, including direct economiclosses, casualities and psychological impact and so on.Chengdu is growing very fast in recent years, and have became the center ofChina`s economic development in Southwest China. In the past5years, there were2huge earthquakes happened in Sichuan Province, the “Wenchuan”earthquake and“Ya`an”earthquake. It`s reminds people who lives in here, that next disaster couldnever far away.In this situation, in the context of present information technology, this studycombiend with previous research, and intend to summarize and reasoning theconcepts of relationship between public awareness of disaster and dissemination ofdisaster information from the perspective of earthquake sociology, social risk, riskcommunication and crisis communication, and based on the specific environment inChendu, this study also conducted a questionaire survey.This study hold that, raise the public awareness of disaster can effectivelymitigate the consequences of disasters brought about, and to some extent, protectpeople`s life and property. Based on this assumption, this study would like to explorethe following questions during the study:1. What kind disaster information and dissemination form of disasterinformation can be accept by public?2. How to though disseminate diaster information effectively to make peopletreating disaster information seriously, and promote public awarness ofdisaster. 3. How does the dissemination of disaster information generate the publicawarness of disaster?4. How to guide people`s disaster prevention/mitigation behavior by usingdissemination of disaster information?After I looked up the relevant literature, and then found that the country hascollected from a sociological point of the investigation for the public awareness ofdisaster prevention. In2002, professor Li jingyi carried out her study called Researchon Evaluation System for National Disaster awareness in Xi`an and Baoji city inShanxi Province. This research took a questionnaire and interviewed500people.312valid questionnaires had been collected. Prfessor Li divided the disaster awarenessinto3parts: the knowledge, the attitude and the behavior, and baseed on this3parts,the research built the Evaluation System for National Disaster awareness.In2007, the Chengdu Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Agency lunched aquestionnaire in Chengdu, it covered5counties and2communities. Thequestionnaire interviewed500people, and312valid questionnaires had beencollected. The respondents came from both the rural area and the urban area. In thisquestionnaire, it explored people`s need of disaster knowledge, people`s attitudetoward earthquake prediction system, awareness of disaster, emergency skills, andemergency need.In the Study of Relationship between Public Awareness of Disaster andDissemination of Disaster Information, in reference to the earlier two researchsmethods, I also carried out a questionnaire to collect data. When designing thequestionnaire, emerging forms of new media will be used as an important factor.Based on the diffusion of innovation theory, the proccess for public to accept a newmedia is very slow, it will take time for “innovators”,“early adopter”,“earlymajority”,“late majority”, and “laggards” to accept it. Seeing that, the survey willpick younger age group to interview, for their better ability to accept new things. As aresult, the study interviewed150people, and135valid questionnaires had beencollected. People in different age, occupation, education level accepted this interview,many of them are young people with higher education level.In this paper, there will be6parts:1. The introduction. In this part I will introduce the backgroud information,thepurpose, the methods, the innovation and the deficiencies of the study2. The literature review. This part will from the perspective of communication to summarize and reasoning previous theory and concepts.3. From the theoratical point, this part analyzed the function and structure ofdisaster information dissemination.4. In this part, is mainly about the survey, it will elaborate the methods, thestatistical results of the questionnaire and the analysis of the study specificly.5. The fifth part of the study will summarize the inference that comes from theearlier four parts, and analyze the orgin, compostion and strengthening of thedisaster prevention awareness.6. This part is about the conclusion and discussion. It will anwser the4assumption that brought about at the beginning, and will discuss the futuremethods and strategies in disaster dissemination area in our country.
