In twentieth Century80since, in the face of the overall level of the social moral,and the serious crisis of moral status of teenagers, USA launched "the new charactereducation" upsurge nationwide. The new character education based on full absorptionof each character education theory and practice experience, summarizes therequirements of the times to adapt to the core values from the traditional charactereducation, and develops a rich connotation, self-contained new mode, successfullystrengthens the moral consciousness, enhances social identity, promotes social justice.It can be said that the whole social moral landslide is the problem that any nation hasto face when its economy develops to a certain stage, so there is no exception inChina. With the rapid development of market economy and the increasing of people’sliving standard, our society has appeared serious money worship, problems ofHedonism, the overall level of social moral decline significantly, education ofadolescent’s character faces great challenge. Although the two countries have somany differences in politics, economy, culture, history, institutions and values, but theAmerican new character education is worthy of our reference in emphasizing thecognition, emotion, behavior integration, the establishment of a comprehensive moraleducation environment in schools and parents and the community, promote thestudents’ moral practice and system security. This paper, based on the status ofChina’s adolescent character education, by historical investigation and analysis ofAmerican new character education, tries to draw lessons from American newcharacter education and global experience, to study the citizen moral education reformof our country social transformation of china.This paper is divided into six parts. The first part is an introduction, mainlyintroduces the present situation and the research topic of defining the connotation ofresearch purposes, research methods; the second part briefly introduces the origin anddevelopment of American new character education, including the review of traditionalcharacter education, the background of American new character education’s initiation,and its development venation; the third part introduces the main the basic principle,content and method of American new character education; the fourth part discussesthe experiences of American new character education as a new mode of moral education in the United States and other parts of the world; the fifth part discusses theAmerican new character education for the limitation of the civilization and progressof the social significance and its own place; in the sixth part, considering of thechallenge of school character education that China faces, expounds how Americannew character education enlightens us to strengthen China’s traditional core valueseducation.
