Hu Shi's Thought Of National Character Transformation And Contemporary Revelation Upon Moral Education

The remolding of national character is closely related to the modernization of the people and the country.If there is no modernization of the people,there will be no modernization of the country.Hu Shi demanded rebuilding national character and advocated personality liberation to highlight the value of “human”and realize the modernization of the people and then the modernization of the whole country.Hu Shi's thought is still of great model significance for developing contemporary moral education,enhancing the overall moral quality of our nationals,realizing people's freedom and comprehensive development,and achieving the Chinese nation's bright prospect on the road to revival.This paper systematically expounds the historical background,the thought origin,the goal,the content,the way and the method of Hu Shi's thought of national character transformation.On this basis,summed up the progressive and limitations of Hu Shi's thought of national character transformation.The author hopes to draw lessons from the essence of Hu Shi's thought to improve the effectiveness of contemporary moral education.There are five parts in this paper:The first part,from the background of Hu Shi 's time,this article briefly expounded the historical background and thought origin of Hu Shi's thought of national character transformation.The second part,in the face of internal and external social reality,Hu Shi profoundly exposed the traditional nationalism in the lack of national concepts and martial spirit,the lack of independent personality and sense of struggle,lack of compassion and responsibility of the evil,combined with the actual situation of China,Hu Shi hopes we can establish a sound national personality,scientific outlook on life,andto make our own contribution to the realization of “social immortality”.Hu Shi' s thought of national character transformation is rich in content,involving the family system,women's liberation,funeral reform and the attitude towards nationalism.The third part,Hu Shi advocated from the literary revolution,new education,democracy,peaceful reform these ways to reform the national incorrigbility.Hu Shi also focus on the transformation of the method,in general,Hu Shi's national character transformation methods mainly have the suspicion and criticism method,the experimental method and the self-psychological construction method.The fourth part,taking an objective view of Hu Shi's thought on the remolding of national character,we can find that it has advantage in respecting human's values,transforming both the society and the individual,promoting the formation of new family ethics,but also has historical limitations like the thought is contradictory to the actions and the thought is not in harmony with the social reality.Understanding the advantage and disadvantage isn't only a historical evaluation of Hu Shi's thought on the remolding of national character,but also a premise for us to learn from his thought critically today.The fifth part,from the thought of Hu Shi' s national character transformation,the idea,viewpoint and method of the contemporary moral education are dug up,mainly including the aim,content,way and method of the contemporary moral education.
