The Vietnam War and the war in Afghanistan are long lasting and highly controversial in American history. It is far-reaching for US foreign policy study. Although the war in Vietnam and in Afghanistan under different background, the choice of withdrawal policy in these two wars still shows some similarities, such as, when face of two wars in a slow process, casualties number continual increasing, domestic divergences expanding and the interests of the United States and its international status are harmed, the Nixon administration and the Obama administration are choosing the same strategies to pursue "an honorable peace" and try to seek "a honorable truce." Therefore, comparative analyses of these two wars contribute to in-depth study of how American policy impact its withdrawal process.Comparative study the Nixon’s withdrawal policy from Vietnam and the Obama’s withdrawal policy from Afghanistan have important theoretical and practical meaning. First of all, this comparative analysis shows us a new perspective of withdraw troop to interpret how the United States intense to seize its power in worldwide competition and increase its weights in international game. Meanwhile, comparative study of influence and geopolitical politics change when American withdraw troop from Vietnam and Afghanistan help us from a new angle to think about how US global strategy affect its military policy formulation. Secondly, by comprising withdrawal policy of the war in Vietnam and in Afghanistan, you will have a new perspective to understand the influence of reconciliation and pursuit of peace in the war for a nation or region. In order to end these two wars as soon as possible, the United States government adjusts its global strategy promptly. The withdrawal policymaking affect US social development and its political decision-making, Moreover, this comparative study make you understand how the United States seek to maximize its national interests under restrictive state power by adjusting the withdrawal policy strategically. This thesis divides into five parts. Introduction part is a brief introduction of background, significance of the topic, current study status and construction of this article. The first chapter is analysis the withdrawal background and policy of the war in Vietnam. The second chapter is followed prior, analyzing the withdrawal background and policy of US war in Afghanistan. The third chapter is based on former chapters’respective analysis of withdrawal background and policy, having a further comparative analysis between these two wars’withdrawal background and policy. In this chapter, the writer has various comparative analysis of these two wars in withdraw policy. For instance, compare with the difference and similarity of policies., and the challenges and interests consideration in withdraw process. The comparative analysis reveals deep-seated influential factors of policymaking. Under the above the prior analysis, in the conclusion part we can conclude that:whether in the Cold War or in21st century, no one expects to achieve its interests by intrusion, even if you are the United States. When face a deep crisis of the war, US forces based on its global strategy to develop and adjust its national policy strategically. Military action cannot achieve the national or regional security, stability and prosperity. It must by social development and economic construction, using "smart power" of multilateral diplomacy and peaceful cooperation with global society to truly achieve the prosperity and development of society and. States.
