When President Obama came into office, he immediately adopted the new Af-Pakstrategy. It was based upon a comprehensive consideration, including U.S. nationalsecurity interests adjustment, the impact of the economic crisis, American people’santi-war sentiment, deteriorated situation in Afghanistan. The new strategy readjustedU.S. counterterrorism objective: disrupt, dismantle, and defeat al Qaeda inAfghanistan and Pakistan, and to prevent its capacity to threaten America and ourallies in the future. To achieve this goal, the Obama administration abandoned theunilateralism policy and adopted the “soft power” concept instead, creativelyemphasizing the same importance of military and non-military means, bundlingAfghanistan and Pakistan together, as well as calling on the international cooperation. The new strategy systematically includes military strategy, economic strategy andpolitical strategy. United States hopes the continuingly improved strategy willfacilitate the Afghanistan reconstruction process, which in return favors the Americanwithdrawal plan and successfully shifts its strategic pivot to east Asia. However, it isreally hard to implement, not only involved complicated international relations, alsoinvolved many historical and realistic issues, which are insurmountable obstacles inthe security, economic and political reconstruction process ofAfghanistan. However, considering the Afghanistan geopolitical position, American globalinterests and the Central Asia’s stability and peace, the new Af-Pak strategy will showzero tolerance towards terrorism recapturing power in Afghanistan. While achievingthis goal, the United States and international community have to adhere to the“Afghanistan self-governing” principle and strength the collaboration withAfghanistan. Only in this way that will ensure the American decent withdraw, stabilityand prosperity in Afghanistan and further peace and development in the entire region. Therefore, although it is difficult to predict the future of Afghanistan, it still attractsthe world’s attention.
