The development of China over the past3decades was attained by the social vitality released by reform; the continuous reform in the economic sector ignited the hope of China’s emergence. However, many far-sighted personages and scholars have pointed out that the stagnation or even retrogression in the political sector may lay a scourge to the long-term development of the country. Therefore, there is an increasingly louder call for the political reform. How to resolve the issues related to reform and stability has been one of the issues China should think about; meanwhile, how to seek a development path that caters to China’s conditions on the basis of capitalizing on the existing political resources is an issue of realistic significance in the political reform of China. Through the in-depth exploitation of the Huntington political reform thoughts, this paper offers an investigation and discussion of the political reform dedicated to the consolidation of the achievements of economic modernization. It is of great necessity to gain an insight into the proposal, formation and development of Huntington’s thoughts and analyze and summarize the reform objectives, environment and conditions so as to explore and realize higher values of the democratic freedom, political stability political institutionalization in the process of studying the political reform thoughts.Within the scope of developing politics, Huntington analyzes the political instability in the developing countries as the result of pursuing economic progress and points out the prime importance of political institutionalized construction and enhanced absorptive capacity of the political system in alleviating the political participation pressure. Political development is dependent on forcible leaders and political parties and materialized by political reform through Fabian and lightning strategy. In light of Huntington’s thoughts about political reform, China should strengthen its political system construction, give full play to the role of People’s Congress and enhance the political absorptive capacity, eradicate the unstable factors in social development and promote rights for the public and people by setting up the political participation channel. Despite the twists and turns on the path of poilitical reform, it is in the Chinese people’s interests to establish a political system featuring democracy and rule of law and pursue the political reform of social freedom, equity and justice.
