A Study On Casework In The Republican Period

During the Republican period, western social work was introduced into China and obtained a certain degree of localization and professional development. In the field of professional method, case work belongs to one of the older and more mature methods. Agreeing with western experience, case work is originally used in the hospital and social salvation institutions in the Republic period, and its emergence and development intensively reflect the historical evolution of the local social work at the time.This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction which points out the research background as well as the theoretical and practical significance of the study on the case work in the Republican period. From the perspective of social work, those studies which have been done are lack of the arrangement of the social work during the Republican period. Case work research at that time helps to enrich such kind of research in this period. The second part sketches the introduction of the Republican period case work by arranging the existing data. The third part discusses the professional education in the Republican period, including college courses and cultivation of practical talent. The fourth part introduces the outstanding performances of case work practiced in medical matters and children and so on in the Republican period. The fifth part briefly evaluates the case work in the Republican period and its contemporarily enlightened meaning. During the Republican period, the cases of social work at home basically synchronize with those of abroad. Through the study of case work during the Republican period, this thesis provides a good reference to the development of modern social work, and it is of vital significance to the study of case work in the Republican period.
