At present, China is experiencing urbanization, industrialization, modern transformation, followed by a rapid increase in the number of elderly population. The aging society in China has been gradually becoming an depth aging society. It raises the question that we have to face today- elderly care problems. Under the background of the growing aging population, the increasing miniaturization of the family structure, the traditional model of family pension increasingly weakened and China’s rapidly developing social old-age care, Z institution experienced a process that the traditional pension institution was rebuilt into apartments for the elderly and then expanded into the aged care home. Such a transformation process becomes a typical case which reflects the changes of pension institution space in current city. By taking the time process of the traditional pension institution converted into modern pension institution, and the changes of elderly care model accompanied by space form as meridian, this paper compares with the changes of the two sides and integrates time and space in the same framework to investigate empirically the relationships between pension institution space and elderly care, and interludes with discussions of the aging experience of old people and the pension agency experience. The author conducted a field investigations for the Z institution through interviews, participant observation and questionnaires to obtain first-hand information, mainly in the“social space theory” perspective, in order to provide pension institutions an enlightenment for theoretical research and practical experience. Firstly, with the passage of time as a clue, the space forms of Z institution in traditional pension institutions, apartments for the elderly and aged care home, the three stages are narrated, and their progressives and limitations are analyzed in three-dimension, namely body, mind and society. Secondly, the effect of spatial change of elderly care mode is investigated to summarize the four conclusions: the pension institution space and the elderly care model are mutual constructed, the government lacks mechanisms for the coordination between public pension institutions space and the need of elderly care, the pension institution space form lags behind the development of care model, and the public welfare of public pension institutions and the functions as the final solution of elderly care have not changed. Finally, based on the above discussion, the author puts the idea how to improve the connection between the pension institution space and the elderly care by intervention of social workers, so that older people can get more professional and personalized service.
