Britain is a nation which has a profound tradition of socialist ideology. From the very beginning of its foundation, British Labour Party declared itself as the representation of working class, and therefore set up the socialist goals and guidelines. In this sense, it can be seen as the successor, practitioners and political representative of British socialist ideology.Although it is different from the scientific socialism, the socialist guidelines and policies that British Labour Party insisted and enforced reflected a typical British socialism. Meanwhile, in its process of struggle for political status, namely, competing with the two traditional powers in British political arena---Conservatives and Liberty, socialism had competed with conservatism and liberalism. In order to become the ruling party and obtain the recognition of its identity, Labour Party’s guiding ideology also experienced transitions from labourism, Fabian socialism to democratic socialism. Along with the transmutation of its ideology, the nature of Labour party has changed, its position in British politics also changed. Research on its transition of ideology is not only conducive to deepen the understanding of the identity of British Labour Party, but also helpful to comprehend the social and political changes and revolution in Britain.Apart from the introduction, this dissertation demonstrated its ideas from three aspects:The first part introduced the development of Socialist ideology of British Labour Party, starting from the establishment of Labour Party when it has a complexity of guidelines, then to the very important stage that Fabian Socialism was decided as the guiding ideology 1918, it afterwards transformed after World War Ⅱ from democratic socialism to the New Labour’s "third way".Additionally, it explored the profound impact of the nationalization and welfare state policy reforms which follow the guideline of socialism on the British society; the second part explored the causes and features of the socialism transitions of British Labour Party socialist. This part analyzed the domestic and international factors that influenced the Socialism transition and summarized the characteristics of this change; the third part give a evaluation of the change of British Labour Party’s socialism ideology and then examined the nature of the Labour Party’s Socialist Ideology and the prospect of the socialist ideology in British Labour Party and British society.
