Abstract/Summary:
The Korean and American mutual defense treaty is formally signed in1953, which marked America and Korean formed a formal military security ties. Since then, the United States fully assume the responsibility for the security of Korean. And Korea become America’s important strongholds curb in the northeast Asia to resist the spread of communist forces. But in the late 60’s, with the development of the situation and the declining of the relative strength, the United States need to adjust their global strategy and Allies policy to reply to the development of the situation. South Korea, which is as an important ally of the United States in Asia, must become the important object of foreign military security policy of the United States. Ford Nixon administration is an important transitional period of the American foreign strategy of global cold war. Compared with the previous government, the policy of the United States to Korea military security has greatly changed. And the policy of this period is very typical. This article provide certain reference function through the research and analysis of Ford Nixon administration and the Korean military security policy,which help us understand the current era of military security relationship of America and South Korea.This paper consists of three parts:introduction, text and epilogue.The introduction part introduces the purpose and the meaning of the topic research, the structure, research methods and innovation of the paper, the research status at home and abroad, the original documents, etc.The text is divided into four parts. The first part presented Korea’s military security policy since World War 2, respectively describing the military security policy of Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy-Johnson period to Korea. The second part introduces the changes of the international security situation in the early 70’s. According to the decrypting of the policy documents of the original file, this part introduced the evaluation and implementation of the military security policy in detail in the Nixon era to Korea, and analysised the reaction to Korean military security policy after the United States adjusted the policy. The third part study America’s military security policy to Korea by interpreting the original file of the Ford administration. Through the study, we can conclude that the military security policy of the Ford government for Korean is the continuation and adjustment of military security policy of Nixon administration to Korea. At the same time, this part changefully analyzes the factors which affect Ford’s adjustment policy to Korea.The conclusion part is mainly a macroscopical generalization and summarization of Nixon’s and Ford’s military security policy to Korea. And then, it refines and sublimates the substance content. At the same time, it points out how we set the policy to foreign countries, especially how to deal with the complex strategic situation with northeast Asia.
