Research On Machiavelli’s Diplomatic Thoughts

Machiavelli is a distinguished diplomat in Renaissance. His diplomatic experience over a long period of time had been the theoretical source of The Prince and Discourses on Livy.and Machiavelli had been one of the founders of realism international relationship theory. Thus, in order to understand the political thought of Machiavelli comprehensively and comprehend the classical realism international relationship theoiy deeply, the research of Machiavelli’s diplomatic theory played an indispensable role. The paper attempted to solve the two questions mentioned above. Holding the perspective of Max’s Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism, the paper introduced the background of Machiavelli’s diplomatic theory factually,combed the diplomatic practice and rules of Machiavelli and evaluated Machiavelli’s diplomatic theory dialectically and objectively.The paper combined with five chapters. Chapter one reviewed academic achievement of the subject. Chapter two expounded the background which was the formation of Italian diplomatic system and European diplomatic system. Knowing from the history, it was five city nations that ruled Italy. And Italy confronted crisis and war. when permanent envoy appeared. It was revealed by aggression of France that Italy was in a weak situation. European diplomatic system in support of military had been formulating gradually. Chapter three combed Machiavelli’s diplomatic experience which mainly focused on the military movement in Pisa. The most important part of this paper was Chapter four. The analysis of Machiavelli’s critical diplomatic rules based on the perspective of the theory of human nature, national interests, balance of power and power politics. The status of Florencerepublic and the historical background of Renaissance provided the view of theory of evil humanity as origin of Machiavelli’s diplomatic thought, holding the extreme patriotism perspective, insisting on dynamic view to analyse balance of power, believing in the diploma in the support of military and pursuing imperialism expansion policy. In the Chapter five, we drived in conclusion. Form the analysis of Machiavelli’s diplomatic thought, it is basically asserted that a host of classical realism international relationship theory creeds originated from Machiavelli’s diplomatic thought and there was no doubt that Machiavelli was inaugurator of classical realism international relationship theory. The main source of Machiavelli’s political thought was his diplomatic experience over a long period of time, it had a great impact on his political thought directly. Machiavelli viewed war and diploma as original model to comprehend politic. But it was modern state and commodity economy, instate of war, that had become the main social formation. This could be regarded as a regret of Machiavelli’s thought.
