As a typical example of regional integration, the European Union(EU) has achieved great progression in the fields of economy, politics and society in the past half-century but still far from a real, highly cohesive political community. With respect to events which have a big impact on national interests, there are still contradictions and conflicts among member states and between member states and the EU.The Common Security and Defence Policy was generated to cope with the international crisis jointly and defend the common security of the Union as a whole. Under the framework of CSDP, the EU has conducted a series of measures to strengthen the cooperation in the field of defence of member states and successfully implemented dozens of missions of crisis management, achieved great advances comparing with slow progression of integration in other fields. But the CSDP didn’t perform well in some events. The EU can neither use it to stop the Iraq War nor forming consistent force and action under the framework of CSDP to fight against terrorism. This article considers Europeanization as an interaction between member states and the EU and then analyse the influence of this interaction on CSDP. Member states view CSDP as a tool to achieve their own foreign policy goals, providing personnel, funds and political support to CSDP; The EU coordinates the position of member states in international crises and promotes the cooperation in the field of defence of member states via CSDP in order to achieving integration in the field of defence. The interaction between the EU and member states have a positive impact on CSDP. While maintaining the intergovernmental nature of CSDP, the process of Europeanization has enhanced the identity basis of CSDP, enriched and strengthened its goal and improved the ability of decision-making and execution of EU under the framework of CSDP.Since 2003, the number of military and civil missions implemented by the EU under the framework of CSDP has has been more than 30. Of the missions already being completed, the EU always has achieved its objectives set at the beginning of the missions and obtained rich experience in crisis management. However, the CSDP exposes its fragility before the contest of Great Powers. Member states cannot speak in one voice under the influence of the US. The EU also cannot deploy large-scale military forces like NATO. Besides, the changes of international situation have brought in new challenge to CSDP, for example, the emergence of terrorism and other non-traditional threats. The EU and member states have common interests in international crises. This external demand impels them to promote the development of CSDP jointly. Although the intergovernmental nature of CSDP will not change, the EU and member states still can gradually improve the effectiveness of crisis management via it. The development of CSDP is beneficial to EU to have a greater impact on the world stage.
