Camouflage is the fundamental means of support in modern military. As a vital process of camouflage engineering, the effect of camouflage design determines the performance of camouflage directly.There exist several problems in the design of camouflage, such as affected by the experience in the process of design easily, the lack of quantitative methods and optimization schemes, unpredictable performance of camouflage. To solve these problems, the technology of 3D visual simulation is exploited to implement modeling of simulation with the effect of camouflage engineering, and fidelity that is identified as an assessment indicator is applied to the adaptability analysis and evaluation of simulation scene built before. The main contributions are as follows:1) We propose an improved interpolation algorithm of regular grid DEM. This method takes the data structure of DEM and the features of topographic factors into consideration, as a result, the accuracy of DEM comes much higher by our improved method. Furthermore, it lays a foundation for the modeling of terrain.2) We construct several models of terrain and culture. A terrain model of simulation scene of camouflage is built by Terra Vista. According to the principles and theories of camouflage engineering, several models is created by Preagis Creator.3) We develop a program of effectiveness simulation for camouflage. Models of terrain and culture are rendered by the program which is based on Vega Prime API and MFC.4) We establish a set of indicators for the. In our assessment, Fidelity is chose for the indicator, and Fuzzy AHP is applied for the process of evaluation, finally we give the adaptability analysis and evaluation for the built simulation scene of camouflage.The results of evaluation show that, simulation program with the effect of camouflage established in this paper can live up to the requirements of visualization camouflage and validate the availability and applicability of simulation scene. The simulation program also make the design of camouflage visually realized and provide a new solution for camouflage design and optimization.
