"The state" is the core of the research of the nation-building which inspects the formation of the state, the internal regime building and stresses the dynamic process.The nation-building is not only of great theoretical research value, but also has important practical significance. The nation-building of the Meiji period in Japan originated from the key historical note of the "black boat event". Under the effect of comprehensive factors, the last general Tokugawa Shogunate exited from the history of Japanese politics. And the new government opened the prelude to the construction of the state. This paper mainly includes the following parts.The first chapter introduces the reviews of related research,and analyzes the definition of some basic concepts to discuss its connotation and extension.The next chapter discusses the formation of the nation-building of the Meiji period in Japan. The process was complex and tortuous and it was the result of a variety of factors.The direct driving force of Japan’s modern nation-building comped from the external, especially the "black boat event". At the same time, it could not be separated from the political crisis and social crisis in Japan as the background, the formation of the nation-building of the Meiji period was the result of internal and external forces.The third chapter details the content and process of the nation-building during the Meiji period in Japan:the ideological construction of nationalism, the construction of the administrative system, the relationship between the central and local construction, the relationship between state and society,the national constitution construction and the construction of external relations.The forth chapter makes comments on the nation-building of the Meiji period after analyzing the path,content and process. The study sums up the following four features of the nation-building:Official compulsory construction, lack of national rationality, the coexistence of internal tradition and external Modernity, two approaches from top to bottom and from bottom to top. And the study analyzes the historical function and the negative impact of the nation-building of the Meiji period in Japan.Under the guidance of Marx’s dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the paper researches the transition period from the feudal state to the modern capitalist countries. The paper uses the relevant theories of political science and the advantage of expertise, and learns from the research methods of other disciplines.This paper objectively analyzes the development path of the nation-building of the Meiji period in Japan in order to understand the Japan’s political choices and political behavior today, and focus on the future of Japan’s national trend.
