All practical human activities of changing the world are fundamentally driven by theprospect of meeting human needs, which is why effectiveness is the most importantcriterion among many people evaluate their own activities with. It is also under the influenceof such criterion that the initiative people show when engaged in practical activities to meethuman needs not only endows dominant impetuses to but forms the effectiveness peoplesought in these activities as well. Along with the daily popularization and wide application ofnetwork and information technologies, network ideological and political education in collegesand universities, as an extension on various practical aspects to the traditional ideological andpolitical education, is an important kind of social activity that educational subjects educatetheir objects taking advantage of the network technology. Therefore, as a form of practicalactivity objectively existent, effectiveness is inevitably the fundamental goal of networkideological and political education in colleges, thus the enhancement of effectivenessbecomes naturally a key issues that needs to be addressed with efforts in this form ofeducation. This is not only the starting point and the end-result of our research on networkideological and political education in colleges, but also a certain claim by human practicalactivities towards this new form of education. However, the effectiveness of current networkideological and political education in Chinese colleges, viewed in an overall perspective, isnot yet satisfactory, hence in a mixed situation, which specially highlights the necessity andurgency for enhancing the research on the subject.Based on above analysis, this paper, through reference to now available research findingsand large amount of relevant materials, attempts to study and explore the subject from thefollowing aspects. The first part expounds the relevant theories on the effectiveness ofnetwork ideological and political education in colleges. Part2delivers an exposition andanalysis on the current status of the subject. Part3, the key part of the paper, includes theresearch and analysis on various elements existent in the generation of effectiveness innetwork ideological and political education in colleges and the laws of these elements conditioning and influencing such effectiveness. The fourth part focuses on considerationswith countermeasures on enhancing the effectiveness in network ideological and politicaleducation in colleges. Practical countermeasures are proposed in this part on five aspectsincluding renewal of educational ideas, enhancement of comprehensive quality of educationalsubjects, enrichment and optimization of educational contents, innovated educational methodsand techniques, as well as optimization of educational environment. These countermeasuresare aimed at propelling the actual improvement of effectiveness of network ideological andpolitical education in colleges, which is also the basic footing and final destination of theresearch on the subject by this paper.
