Compared with Traditional Learning, Cooperative Learning is a creative andeffective teaching theory that have been adopted by many countries. CooperativeLearning is based on the heterogeneous group. It mainly takes advantage of theinteraction between the teaching dynamic factors to promote the student learning level.At last the group stores will be its evaluation standard. Also we can say each member ofa team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammateslearn. The new curriculum reform advocates using the Cooperative Learning. Throughthe theoretical and practical research, we know there are many advantages aboutCooperative Learning. For example, it can not only improve students’ academicachievement but also improve the relationship between students and teachers. In additionto this, it can promote the students’ non-cognitive and emotional abilities. Howeverthroughout these researches on Cooperative Learning, we see most of them focused onthe cities. Because of this, some rural school had to imitate the excellent cases to promotetheir teaching quality. In fact, these schools misunderstand the real nature of theCooperative Learning. As a rural middle school, Du Langkou is a successful example onpracticing Cooperative Learning. It is essential to research on the Cooperative Learningwhich is practicing in our western region in order to narrow the education gap. In China,the northern part of Shanxi is an underdeveloped area. The writer selects onerepresentative rural school to evaluate the application and the useful countermeasuresabout Cooperative Learning in English. The paper includes theoretical research and empirical research. The title came froma survey which was made with our tutor. Here the writer selects Danba Junior Middleschool as the sample school. The writer has taught English in the sample school for morethan one year. Here she interviewed some English teachers and did some survey to writethe paper more objectively and authentically. The first part is the theoretical explanationabout Cooperative Learning. The second part introduces the relation betweenCooperative Learning and English teaching in northern Shanxi. The third part is theresearch in the sample middle school. The fourth part narrates some featured teachingmethod about middle school English. The last part put forwards some strategies. In orderto develop the rural education in the sample part we each of educators should pay moreattention to it.
