With the development of the basic education reform and the issue of the newcurriculum standard for senior high school, the Learning-plan Guided Teaching andLearning Model, characterized by autonomous, cooperative and explorative, is produced. As a novel teaching and learning model, it complies with the requirements of the newcurriculum reform and quality-oriented education, and fully reflects the teaching principles"teacher is the instructor, students are the subjectsâ€, aiming at cultivating students’autonomous and cooperative learning abilities. Now, in our country the Learning-planGuided Teaching and Learning Model has been employed into English teaching in manyschools, such as Jinhua No.1Middle School of Zhejiang Province, Zibo No.5MiddleSchool of Shandong Province, and Xingjiang No.2Middle School of Shanxi Province andso on. In this research, Xinjiang No.2Middle School was chosen to conduct the study, forthe purpose of knowing about the condition of the application of the Learning-plan GuidedTeaching and Learning Model. Specifically, this study is supposed to answer the followingtwo questions.1) What positive effects does the application of such model exert on the English teachingin this school?2) What possible problems exist in the process?Questionnaire and interview are used in this investigation, and the subjects of thestudy are151students from the Second Grade and8English teachers of these students inXinjiang No.2Middle School. These students never used the Learning-plan GuidedTeaching and Learning Model before they enrolled in this school. It is beneficial to them tofind out the obvious changes after using the model one and a half years. Besides, thequestionnaire used in this study is designed on the basis of Wang Xiaojuan’s and theinterview questions are designed based on the questionnaire. Then, the author analyzed thecollected data by using Excel2003.The results of the study indicate that the investigated subjects have made great changes after using the Learning-plan Guided Teaching and Learning Model.1) Students’autonomous learning ability is promoted.2) Both teachers’ and students’ cooperativeawareness are reinforced.3) Students behave better in their learning performance.4) Theclass becomes more interactive.5) Both the teaching efficiency and learning efficiency areconsiderably improved.6) Teachers’ professional development is enlarged. Simultaneously, there exist some problems. First, it is difficult for teachers to fully apply the Learning-planGuided Teaching and Learning Model to the class in the limited class time. Second, it isdifficult to design a perfect learning to meet students’ different needs. Third, there is stillno criterion to evaluate the learning plan.Based on the results of the investigation, some suggestions are given. For the schoolauthority, they should offer various training opportunities to teachers to lay a solidtheoretical foundation of the model and know more about the characteristics of the Modelin practice. For teachers, they should change their teaching concept, make clear their rolesin teaching, learn to cooperate with others to refine their teaching styles, and make learningplan based on students’ actual level. For students, they should redefine their roles inlearning, learn to explore new knowledge independently and cultivate the autonomouslearning ability, establish the concept of questioning and do self-reflection to improve them. Finally, there is no perfect teaching and learning model, so the Learning-plan GuidedTeaching and Learning Model should be supplemented with other methods. The thesis consists of five parts. Part one is the introduction of the thesis, includingresearch background, the significance of the research and the overall structure of the thesis.Part two serves as the literature review. Part three is the research design, in which researchquestions, subjects, methods and instruments are illustrated. Part four is the analysis anddiscussion of the data. Part five concludes all the findings into a summary, including themajor findings, suggestions, limitations and prospects of the future research. |
