In recent years, it has been a preveiling phenomenon that schools all over China includingelementary schools, junior high schools and senior high schools concentrate on the theory andapplication of the guided learning plans ever since the teaching mode was introduced15yearsago. At the same time, in China a large number of researchers and teachers have been probinginto the mode and writing a lot of papers to demonstrate that the pedagogical mode of guidedlearning plan is quite efficient in enlarging teaching contents, improving students’ autonomousand cooperative learning ability,thus enhancing and promoting the whole teaching efficiencyboth in class and after class.Qingdao No.17Senior High School, where the writer has been teaching for about14years,brought in the teaching mode based on the guided learning plans ten years ago and benefited alot from it. However, according to the writer’s personal teaching experience, this pedagogicalmode exhibits both advantages and disadvantages. Most competent teachers are familiar withthe relevant theories and principles, but they can’t compile a learning guide that can satisfy allcolleagues who are teaching different classes with different levels. Teachers are quite expert incompiling a fantastic guided learning plan, but not all students can finish the plan efficientlybecause different students show different attitudes towards teachers’ requirements. A guidedlearning plan that covers all language points may not be proper for students with differentlevels. As a result, schools that apply the pedagogical mode of guided learning plan shouldthink about many practical problems carefully, such as the advantages and disadvantages ofguided learning plan, the relationship between guided learning plan and the English textbooks,and the proper methods that can be used to lower the students’ learning burden in order topromote the their interest in learning English.After the postgraduate study in Shandong Normal University for3years, the writer ishappy to verify and think about the following questions which should attract the attention of allteachers at present. How to avoid the disadvantages of the guided learning plan and make theleaning guide benefit students with different levels? How to transfer teaching process intostudents’ active learning? How to cultivate their spirit of cooperation, improve their ability to find out problems and cope with problems? How to enhance their competitiveness in NMET,and let the students be their self master on study?To verify the assumption, the present thesis adopted the method of reference documents,questionnaire, interview, and observation. With the help of20teachers and12classes inQingdao No.17Senior High School, the writer designed questionnaires and interviewed sometop students, ordinary students and under achievers. After specific analysis of the statistics, theauthor summed up the advantages and disadvantages of applying guided learning plan inEnglish teaching and learning. Finally, the thesis exhibited a lot of specific suggestions on howto improve the guided learning plan and make the future similar study more accurate andpractical.The thesis is made up of5chapters. The introduction analyzed the current researchsituation, the research tendency and the significance of selecting this topic. This part alsodescribes the research methods, purposes and the main contents of this thesis paper. Chapter1mainly sums up the relevant study on guided learning plan which is carried out by theresearchers at home and abroad.
