With the implement of the new curriculum standard for senior high school and the basic education reform, the Guided Learning Plan Teaching Model emerges. It is characterized by autonomous, cooperative and exploratory learning. As a novel teaching model, it reflects the teaching principles “teachers as instructors, students as subjects”, as well as complies with the requirements of quality-oriented education and the curriculum reform. Now in our country, many schools have carried out the Guided Learning Plan Teaching Model in their teaching reform, among which is No.1 senior high school of Fanxian. In this research, this school is chosen as a case to conduct the study, aiming to learning about the condition of the application of the Guided Learning Pan Teaching Model. Specifically, this study is supposed to answer the two questions below:⑴ What positive effects does the application of such teaching model have on the English teaching in this school?⑵ What possible problems exist in the teaching? In this study, questionnaire, interview and classroom observation are employed, and 481 senior high school students from Grade 3 and 20 English teachers are investigated. Students’ questionnaire mainly includes students’ comments on GLP,learning performance, awareness of cooperation, learning autonomy and so on.Teachers’ questionnaire mainly includes teachers’ comments on GLPTM, students’ performance, teachers’ professional development, awareness of cooperation and so on, and the questions in the interview are also designed on the basis of the questionnaire. Then, this thesis analyzes the collected data by SPSS. Based on the results of the investigation, the positive effects of the application of the Guided Learning Plan Teaching Model can be concluded as follows: ⑴ By adopting the Guided Learning Plan, most students have developed the good habits of previewing;⑵ The Guided Learning Plan changes students’ ways of learning; ⑶ The students are greatly motivated to participate in class activities; ⑷ Interaction awareness inclass between teachers and students, among students is largely increased; ⑸ The Guided Learning Plan Teaching Model makes teachers more cooperative with each other in their teaching. Simultaneously, there exist some problems: ⑴ When designing the English Guided Learning Plan, teachers pay too much attention on the language knowledge such as vocabulary and grammar; ⑵ The Guided Learning Plan is not suitable for students whose ability of self-learning is poor; ⑶ The Guided Learning Plan does not meet the needs of students at all levels.According to the results of the investigation, some suggestions are given. For local education department and the school authority, they should offer various training opportunities to teachers to make them know more about the characteristics of the Guided Learning Plan Teaching Model, change the way of evaluation and assessment, inspire teachers to communicate and learn from each other in practice. For teachers, they should change their teaching concept, refine their teaching styles, pay more attention to guide students to summarize rules and methods in learning, and design Guided Learning Plan on the basis of students’ actual level. For students, they should learn to explore new knowledge independently as well as cultivate their autonomous learning ability. They should also do self-reflection and form the effective strategies while using Guided Learning Plan.
