Based on the underachievers’ learning interest, the paper was designed to investigatethe learning situation of the underachievers by means of classroom observation,questionnaire, interview and data analysis. Then the writer put forward transformationmeasures and teaching suggestions so that they can help the English underachieversimprove their learning interest and academic scores. The subjects in this paper areselected from the underachievers in Senior2in Ganzhou No.3Middle School.The research showed: most of the underachievers find it difficult to improveacademic scores. The main reason why they have difficulty learning English is thatvocabulary and grammar are difficult to memorize and understand. The teachingmaterials are difficult for them. Most of the underachievers still want to learn Englishwell but they don’t know how to learn English. Many underachievers are losingconfidence because they can not achieve ideal academic scores. The underachievers can’tconcentrate themselves on the English class but they are very interested in topics whichare related to their life. At present, the English teachers often use a single teaching formand seldom adapt to the difficult teaching materials for the underachievers and the speedof their teaching is fast. Then they feel it difficult to follow the teaching process and theyare gradually losing interest in English.For solving the above problems, some concrete measures to transform theunderachievers have been put forward,which include knowing about their true Englishlevel, helping them enter into their zone of proximal development, arousing theirmotivation and interest, attaching importance to imparting learning method andhumanistic Care in activities. Besides, the writer designed several teaching cases to showteaching measures for them. The writer designed creative lead-in and supplemented someteaching materials which are close to their life to lower the difficulty of learning andimprove their interest. Meanwhile, the guided learning plan was designed for vocabularyand grammar teaching.
