Teaching quality is the lifeline of universities’ survival and development. It is the relentlesspursuit of universities to improve their teaching quality. As an essential part of evaluation ofteachers’ teaching quality, Student Evaluation of Teaching Effectiveness (SET)is aneffective way to improve the quality of universities’ teaching. However, there are still manydrawbacks of SET, of which two important issues are the adverse selection and moral riskamong students. The two issues are also important causes of the deviation of results of SET.The dissertation is intended to study the current status of adverse selection and moral riskamong students in the process of SET by carrying out empirical investigation and asymmetricinformation theory.Firstly, the paper conducts literature review of the status of SET and the concepts ofstudents’ adverse selection and moral risk are defined. Then the empirical survey is conductedthrough Likert table and the weight of each index is determined through the main factoranalysis. Besides, the paper obtained scores of four dimensions, namely possession of SETinformation, adverse selection, moral risk and benefiting condition with which the status ofSET is studied. Moreover, the first-hand information collected by questionnaires andinterviews are summarized to explore the reasons of adverse selection and moral risk. Finally, the corresponding conclusions are obtained through analyzing the above reasons andcountermeasures are proposed to reduce students’ adverse selection and moral risk. The dissertation finds that students’ adverse selection (3.25) and moral risk (3.22) arerather serious in the current college SET, which would cause the deviation of teachingevaluation. In addition, the relationship between possession of SET information and adverseselection is highly negative, so is that between possession of SET information and moral risk. The relationship between benefiting condition of SET and adverse selection is moderatelynegative, so is that between SET benefiting condition and adverse selection. Therefore, theuniversities should increase students’ possession of information and benefiting conditions, putSET in a reasonable position, put forward relevant regulations in order to reduce the occurrence of students’ adverse selection and moral risk and improve SET results.
