Education is the foundation of national development; with the knowledge as thedecisive factor to raise the comprehensive national strength and internationalcompetiveness, the training and reserve of competent talents have become theimportant means for various countries to succeed in their competition and cooperation;China is a populous country whose education has a close relation with theimprovement of national quality; under the guidance of the criterion of physics courseof high school, the author combines the theory of constructivism learning andcognitive psychology and discusses the application of inquiry teaching in the processof teaching mechanics of high school; the inquiry teaching emphasizes the formativeassessment and self-assessment and promotes the active participation of students in ademocratic and harmonious class atmosphere to realize the equality and interaction ofcooperative learning.Mechanics is the foundation of physics and the core of other scientific research,which includes electromagnetism,thermology and modern physics; after entering thehigh school, the first part for students to learn is mechanics; a solid and successfulexperience of learning mechanics will be of great help for students in their follow-upstudy of physics; therefore, it is necessary to explore the research and practice ofteaching mechanics in the high school physics; the paper discusses the inquiryteaching through the literature review and the importance of mechanical knowledge inthe whole knowledge system with actual conditions of physics teaching to provide areference for the teaching of mechanics in high school physics.This paper shows that inquiry teaching has some effects on the teaching ofmechanics, which improves the motivation and enthusiasm of students and forms anactive class atmosphere, makes students experience the real process of scientificinquiry, cultivates the inquiry ability and innovative spirit of students and promotestheir all-round developments.
