In light of the “English Curriculum In Compulsory Education Phase”(2011edition)published by the Department of Education of the People’s Republic of China and theEnglish teaching in Dongguan Huizhong Middle School, this research involves a series ofinvestigation about students’ application of English learning strategies. With the analyticalstudy of students’ English level and the coordinated study of every aspect of English study,this research is centered on developing targeted learning strategies, increasing students’interests and enhancing their learning capacities.In the process of this study, proper adjustments have been made to manipulatestudents’ development of learning strategies. All this adjustments are made based on thecomparative study between experimental class and the control class. The results areencouraging. With the adjustment of learning strategies, the feedback from the subjects andadequate change of teaching methods, individual learning strategies are built which fit inevery different learner.The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter one is an introduction that consists of thestatement of the objectives of this research and an analysis of the significance ofdeveloping English learning strategies for learners. Chapter two is the literature review onEnglish learning strategies. Some relevant theories and pedagogies are introduced,especially theories and methodologies concerning junior middle school students’ Englishlearning strategies. Chapter three is the methodology. By presenting the participants,describing the research design, listing the detailed procedure and the treating of data, themethodology will prove the feasibility and validity of the research and bring about certainoutcomes. Chapter four is the results and discussion. Based on the answers to thequestionnaire, the interview and the analysis of them in a reliable way, a discussion isconducted from different perspectives. Chapter five is the conclusion. It is concluded thatthe application of individual English learning strategy will cause positive effects and solvesome of the current problems. Still, problems are there and future studies are necessary.
