The new curriculum reform which started in2001has entered theimplementation stage; the new curriculum reform focuses on the all-rounddevelopment of human beings, it has put forward three dimensional objectives, but inthe teaching practice, teachers often neglect the affective attitude and concepts ofvalue cultivation of the students. The new curriculum requires the teachers to put thecultivation of affective attitude and concepts of value in teaching and list it in teachingmaterial and teaching objective. In the new curriculum reform, it has pointed outclearly that affective attitude and concepts of value is an important factor whichaffects students’ learning and development, that is to say, in the elementary educationstage, English courses will not only develop students’ language knowledge and skillsbut also enhance students’ positive affect.But when we turn to the current situation of senior high school English teaching,we can find that the understanding of the affective attitude and concepts of value isdisjointed with the teaching practice. Lacking of knowledge of relevant theory andpractice and the characteristic of the senior high school teaching are the mainobstacles in implementing the affective attitude and concepts of value objective. Inorder to find out the concrete reasons of the obstacles, in this essay, I have made asurvey of60teachers in four ganzhou senior high schools and had an interview with10teachers, what is more, I have participated10English teachers’ classes and madeconcrete records of the lessons and then found out the reasons why the affectiveattitude and concepts of value objective is hard to be carried out in senior high school.The college entrance examination pressure, lacking support from the parents, the longtime social morality which attaches great importance on scores but ignores affect, theinsufficient supervision from the education department, the not thoroughimplementation of the schools and so on. However, in the concrete implementation,the teachers have also summarized some strategies which can help to implement theaffective attitude and concepts of value. For example, design the class activities in thereal situation, explore and rely on the teaching material to develop the affecteducation, establish new teacher-student relationship, and adopt the exploring learning and so on. By questionnaire and interview, we can better understand the real situationof the implementation of the affective attitude and concepts of value in senior highschool English and also the precious experience from the teachers.
