In order to adapt to the rapid development of modern society and cultivate the innovative talentswith international awareness and competitiveness, China launched a new round of the basic educationcurriculum reform at the beginning of20thcentury. The curriculum reform is the biggest and mostinfluential education reform since the establishment of the new China. It has made the correspondingadjustment to the training objectives, course structure, teaching content, teaching methods andteaching evaluation etc. links. At one hand, the new reform of basic education is not only changingthe basic education of China, but also facing the dispute from community. At the other hand, as theadvanced international educational thought, the lifelong education has been recognized and promotedby more and more education sector after its rise in our country. The national awareness of theimportance of lifelong learning is continually deepening. But we can still see some problems in theoryand practice which has influenced the popularization, promotion and deepening of lifelong education,whose enlightenment period and important node is basic education. So how to effectively implementthe quality education in the field of basic education, how to carry out the lifelong learning concept andhow to cultivate students’ lifelong learning ability and habit in the stage of basic education is a majorissue worthy of educators.This thesis mainly adopts the educational research methods such as literature method andcomparative method etc. After reading lots of literature on lifelong education research, the author hasovercome prejudices and misunderstandings of the old idea on lifelong education, introduced thedevelopment history of lifelong education and its theory from the perspective of theoretical analysis.The author also redefined the lifelong education that is the sum of accepted education and social lifefrom the beginning of one’s life to its disappearance, including different stages and types of education.The author also summarized the main four basic features of lifelong education: democracy, lifelong,initiative and life. On this basis, we review the value orientation, training objectives, learning and thenotion of curriculum of the new basic education curriculum reform from the four basic features oflifelong education, affirmed to the achievement that new curriculum reform has made. I have alsoanalyzed the reason of dilemmas during the implementation of the new curriculum reform at the sametime. According to the status of the implementation of Chinese basic curriculum reform, I have givenfour suggestions for Chinese basic education curriculum reform under the guidance of the theory oflifelong education: allocating the education resources rationally, ensuring the equity of education;insisting on quality education, cultivate the students’ ability of lifelong learning; completing the education evaluation system, promoting the active learning and optimizing the course design,balancing the direct experience and indirect experience.I hope that the development of China curriculum theory could grasp its direction better ininternational background. Use the positive factors of lifelong education reasonably based on theChinese conditions. Improve the current basic education curriculum reform constantly; make Chinesebasic education towards a better direction..
