As a multi-ethnic country, its minority groups play an important role in Canada.Government of Canada appears to various educational problems in the process ofsolving these issues. Government of Canada developed a series of different nationaleducation policies not only to protect their own interests for each ethnic groups, butalso to protect the nation’s unique cultural traditions and language. The term,multiculturalism, was first come to use in Canada in1960s. In the policy ofmulticulturalism, it regulates that Canada is a country with different nationality andvarious cultural characteristics, and not a society just based on the nationality whichfounded the country. The government advocates that different nationalities anddifferent cultural groups should respect one another and get on equally.This thesis takes the changes of educational policies towards ethnic minorities. Theessay attaches importance to analyzing the key factors that influenced nationaleducation policy change, and summarizes the Canadian National Education PolicyChanges of each ethnic groups in the characteristics and its enlightenment. This Papermainly includes five parts: The first part mainly describes the language policy andeducation in the colonial period under French rule and England rule,the effect of thecontent of assimilation policies of the Anglo-Saxon, what’s more, backgroundinformation and implementation of the policy are also included; The second partmainly describes dual culture policy between British and French during the transitionperiod. In addition, the background knowledge and detailed exposition, such as:different provinces have different rules and the popularization of compulsoryeducation are also demonstrated in specific in this part; third part detailed describesthe background, implementation and the evaluation effect of the multiculturaleducation policy; In addition,this part discusses the Canadian language educationalpolicy of multiculturalism and its implementation; fourth section detailed discussesthe influencing factors about the Canadian national education policy changes, as wellas the profound enlightenment of our country’s minority education policy.
