A new round of curriculum reform, for the overall development of students, in order toimprove the academic achievement, the teacher should not only confined to the textbookknowledge, but in summary understanding of materials based on the content, supplementarymaterials properly, the development of teaching materials. A teacher should make a detailedand comprehensive analysis of the textbook on the basis of studying the new curriculumstandards of geography, so as to lay a solid foundation for geography teaching. Furthermore,for teachers, a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the textbook can not only provides thebasis of achieving the goal of geography teaching and improving the ability of geographyteaching design, but also serves as a reference for teachers to study geography textbook andgrasp the knowledge structure of geography textbook. In addition, textbook analysis can alsofunctions as guidance for development and exploitation of the curriculum resources, whicheffectively promotes the construction of teaching material and the development of geographyeducation accordingly.The object of this thesis is “the Atmosphere on the Earth” excerpted from high schoolgeography1of PEP, chapter II. Thus the essay, based on the views proposed by Professor LiJiaqing and guided by new curriculum theories, aims to analyze the textbook by adoptingliterature research method and comparative method. The overall analysis and concreteanalysis are used to do textbook analysis research, combined with my own teaching practice,some advice about teaching this chapter is put forward to help geography teachers’ teaching.This paper can be divided into three parts.The first part mainly includes introduction, literature review, definition of relevantconcepts and theoretical basis. The introduction mainly expounds research background, theresearch purpose and significance, the methods and the ideas of this research. The literaturereview mainly summarizes the relevant teaching material analysis research present situation;The definition of related concepts and theoretical foundation of the important concepts in thispaper are defined, and the theoretical basis of this paper is applied to the analysis.The second part includes the three part is the core of this thesis, that is, the fourth、fifth、sixth part. The fourth part of the contents of the overall analysis, mainly focuses on thedevelopment background of the textbook, external and internal relations of the textbook. In the background of the overall analysis, the fifth part of the contents of textbooks do concreteanalysis, the concrete analysis is used to make a study of the following aspects, such ascontent standards and curriculum interpretation, status and role, knowledge structure,capability structure, emotional attitude and values, important and difficult points, discourserepresentation structure (DRS) and so forth. The content of textbooks do overall and specificanalysis, the sixth part combined with my own teaching practice presented in this chapter isrelated to some teaching suggestions.The third part is research conclusion, analysis the conclusion and deficiencies.By analyzing “the Atmosphere on the Earth” in chapter II, the goal of the textbookanalysis is to make teachers pay more attention to textbook. In the course of teaching, teachersshould analyze the geographical thought as well as ability and emotion, all of which need tobe grasped by students, and teachers’ teaching activities should also be based on a certaintextbook, but not limited to the textbook. Therefore, making good use of the textbook canprovide some new perspectives on rewriting and republication of the textbook.
