The effect of moral education has a close relationship with moral educationmethods. Our country always attach importance to the content of moral education,while ignore the development of the methods, so that many of our ideological andmoral education can not be fully implemented and reflected. The western moraleducation methods in twentieth century have achieved fruitful research results, whichdraw reasonable beneficial ingredients to enrich and develop our moral educationmethods to improve the effectiveness of moral education.The western moral education methods in twentieth century is under thebackground of western realistic social conditions, influenced by the moral educationtheory directly, absorbing thought of philosophy, psychology, sociology and so on.The whole century moral education methods have experienced three stages:embryonic stage, stagnation period and the booming development stage. On the basisof the styles of twentieth western moral education, I put forward the moral educationmethods of intellectualistic type, emotional type and behaviour type. I introduce themethods through theoretical presupposition, representative, operation, simple andsummary features of diversity, opppsing to instill, focusing human, permeability andscientificity. On this basis, we affirm and consider the positive side, such as diversityof theoretical foundation, moral education idea to the method, being good atabsorbing results of other disciplines, and criticize the negative side, such as stressingmethod is more important than content, ooposing the impact of infusion with theviewpoints of marxist materialist dialectics.After the cognizing and analysis of western moral education methods intwentieth century, combing with the present situation of our moral education, theenlightenment of western moral education methods in twentieth century is thatpromote the research in the theory of moral education deeply, and that using the ideacultivating methods, promote the modern idea of moral education in China natively,and that using discipline borning methods, promoting the theoretical achievements ofother disciplines for the moral education methods. About the specific western moraleducation methods in twentieth century, we should draw lessons from them critically.
