At present, the reform of scientific education urgently need us re-understand the nature of science and its educational value, and take effective measures to strengthen the education of the nature of science, to enhance the scientific literacy of students. HPS teaching model is the relevant contents of history of science, philosophy of science and sociology of science blend into the science curriculum in primary and secondary schools, and it is a new teaching mode in order to promote students’ understanding about the nature of science. The chemistry curriculum in high school is an important component of Chinese basic education curriculum. It is an irreplaceable role in forming the correct view on the nature of science, training and improving students’scientific accomplishment. This study adds the HPS education to the chemistry teaching under such background, to try to promote students’understanding about the nature of science. In this study, I mainly used the literature research method and the case study method. The study was based on a standard for middle school students’views of nature of science. Firstly, according to analysis of’Ordinary High School Chemistry Curriculum Standard (Experiment)’and the teaching materials of High School Chemistry Compulsory Course One, Two and Four published by Peoples Education Press, I selected five science history themes involving’The Periodic Table of Elements and Element Categories Development’,’The Discovery Process of Benzene’,’Haber and Synthetic Ammonia’,’The discovery of Chlorine Gas and Gas Warfare’and’The Discharge Dispute and Voltaic Battery Invention’ Secondly, according to collecting related science history and developing the implied nature of science by these facts, I designed teaching goals and compiled five teaching designs that include the nature of science. Thirdly, I chose students in a science class in the Second Nankai Middle School to do case studies. At the completion of each teaching subject, students have completed the’the Nature of Science Reflection Questionnaire’, and students which do not experimental studies in another science class have completed the same’the Nature of Science Reflection Questionnaire’ as well. Finally, after collecting and collating the student questionnaire, I qualitatively analyzed and compared the reflection cases on the nature of science between these two classes, to explore the influence for the students’views of nature of science with the HPS in the high school chemistry teaching. The results indicate that the HPS is added to the chemistry teaching, and guide students to reflect and discuss on the nature of science, so that students have a more in-depth understanding at nine aspects, including repetitiveness, limitations, relativity, creativity, predictability, non-authoritative, non-absolute objectivity, science and society, science and technology. These experimental studies basically reach the ideal level. HPS education on the chemistry teaching can improve students’understanding of the nature of science.
