It is very important to improve the nature of science of students and to understand the nature of science,because they is not only the basic goal of contemporary science education reform,but also the core of scientific literacy as well as an important goal of science education.In recent years,China's science education had also paid more and more attention to the cultivation of students' nature of science.In the Outline of the National Plan of Scientific Literacy(2006-2010-2020)issued by the State Council of China,the idea of "preliminary understanding of the nature of science" had been recognized as one of the goals of cultivating the scientific literacy of minors.However,extensive literature survey indicates that China's secondary science education development of students' "nature of science" situation is not optimistic,which directly affects the overall development of students.The HPS teaching model,which is a kind of teaching mode advocated by many educational researchers in recent years,can help develop the nature of science of the students by infiltrating the history of science,the philosophy of science and the sociology of science in the teaching process.Our study mainly includes two parts,namely,theoretical part and practice part.In the theoretical part,taking the teaching of both "ion reaction" and "element enrichment in seawater" as example,we carried out the teaching design of HPS teaching model,and puts forward the strategies of implementing HPS teaching model in high school chemistry teaching.In the practice part,the teaching experiments,which include both experimental classes using HPS teaching mode teaching and the control class using traditional teaching mode,were performed in two parallel classes of anshan ninth senior high school in grade one.Meanwhile,we checked the result of the changes in the nature of science of students after performing the teaching experiment by the questionnaire survey.It is found that there is a significant difference in the nature of science of experimental classes and control classes after the teaching experiment,which proves that HPS teaching model can effectively develop students' nature of science.Additionally,as compared with the earlier experiment,the measured score of the students in the control class slightly raised,which indicated that the traditional chemistry teaching also played a certain role to improvethe nature of science of students.the following results were obtained in our research:(1)The curriculum standards should be explicit about the connotation and educational goals of the nature of science;(2)Teachers' HPS literacy must be improved by strengthening pre-service and on-the-job training;(3)Teachers must consciously accumulate HPS material;(4)Teachers should pay attention to the nature of thinking embodied in the history of chemistry;(5)Teachers should have a sense of lifelong learning.
