Reading is an important language and life skill. There exist a few problems ofreading teaching in fulfilling teaching targets of senior high schools. The paper laysits foundation on theories and principles of Communicative Language Teaching andSchema Theory of reading in order to promote reading teaching and improve thestudent’s reading ability by discussing, analyzing and applying CommunicativeEnglish Reading Teaching.The paper is composed of Introduction, Main body and Conclusion. The mainbody contains three chapters. The first chapter is Communicative Language Teachingand English Reading Teaching. It mainly reviews the theoretical background andbasic principles of CLT, and at the same time introduces Schema Theory and its’relevant studies in teaching. It also analyzes and concludes reading teaching targets,points out the problems of reading teaching and puts forward Communicative EnglishReading Teaching (CERT). The second chapter presents the basic principles andprocedures of Communicative English Reading Teaching. Six principles are analyzedand four procedures are recommended in this part. The third chapter introduces thefeatures of four types of English text, and provides four samples of designing classactivities in Communicative English Reading Teaching. It also presents and discussesthe roles that teachers and students perform in teaching.The paper mainly uses literature review and taking examples and samples as itsresearch methods.
