Reading teaching is one of the most important parts in senior English teaching. In order to improve the teaching of senior English reading and to help teachers and students find a scientific way of teaching and learning, I have read a lot of books on teaching English reading and psychology. After the study of many reading teaching methods and thinking of my own teaching experience, I got the thought of this Three-step Teaching Method of Reading. The three steps work as follows: first, introduction of a text; second, reading comprehension and study of language points; third, creative reading. This teaching method is based on social linguistics and psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology and schema theory as well as the essentials of reading. It is student-centered during the whole process and emphasizes on the significance of background knowledge and analysis of the structure of a passage in understanding the passage. The three steps are advanced one by one, which is designed for the study of the students. It will develop the students' ability in listening and writing as well as in reading. In order to test the effect of the teaching method, to verify its rationality, feasibility and substantiality, I practiced this method for more than a year. From the survey by questionnaire, the Three-step Teaching Method can improve the teaching quality of English and develop their abilities in using the language synthetically. The paper briefly recommends the teaching principles and strategies used in the teaching process of the three-step teaching method of senior English reading as well as the role of a teacher. Meanwhile, this paper also discusses its enlightenment to Senior English teaching of reading. In the end, I pointed out the problems that need to be improved, andgiven further studies, for which I am striving.
