The Research On Tao Xingzhi’s Educational Thoughts Of Creative Education And Its Contemporary Significance

Tao xingzhi is the pioneer of modern Chinese education. His educational thoughtsare highly characterized by the intersection of both Chinese and western thinking, whichresulted from his profound knowledge of Chinese classics and years of learning in theUnited States. Despite of the fact that Tao had borrowed a lot from his predecessors, hewas not content to rest on reference alone. On the contrary, Tao kept on reflecting anddeveloping others’ educational thoughts. Meanwhile, he applied these advancededucational thoughts to his hands-on educational practice, making it possible for histhoughts to get new developments. This is why Tao’s educational thoughts are able toremain prescient. Creative Education is the core of Tao’s educational thoughts. ThroughTao’s own development, especially the increment of the creative education in the educationpractice process of founding Xiaozhuang Normal School, his educational thoughts ofcreative education became the important ideological resources for education. The study ofTao’s educational thoughts of Creative Education is based on text analysis. From TaoXingzhi’s works on creative education, the historical gradual progress of Tao’s CreativeEducation and his ideological system are summed up. At the same time, this article alsoselects teachers and students from several middle schools as the research samples. The aimis to be aware of the cognition and practice of the creative education in teachers andstudents, and analyze the existing problems in educational practice, so as to explore thecontemporary significance of Tao Xingzhi’s thoughts of creative education. Although it ismore than half a century since Tao’s thoughts were presented, the advancement andpredictability is still of reference significance to us after we review Tao’s thoughts again.Research on Tao’s educational thought of Creative Education can provide great help for theeducational reform nowadays.
