One of most prominent educators in contemporary China,amid his democratic and educating career,Tao Xingzhi has proposed numerous theories to facilitate the development of education in China.In light of the obsolete and dilapidated education situation,referred to as ‘ dead' and ‘dying' education in old China,he initiated the concept of ‘living' education,with a particular emphasis on using creative teachers,combined with using more lively materials.The theory features utilizing vibrant teaching method,inculcating innovative students,imparting valuable qualities,and taking on a more vivacious education style.Despite being proposed nearly a century ago,the great flexibility,and practicality of the theory is still consistent with the demands of trend of deepening new curriculum reforms and further inculcating talents in modern China.With its core value on innovation and creativity,the theory has proved essential in cultivating a critical attitude towards historical materials and corroboration of past histories.With further deepening of education reforms,cultivation of core values in history subject is an important teaching objective.The ability to corroborate historical facts constitutes an essential part in history teaching,with its teaching research and methodology being a heated debate recently.There is great discrepancy between the teaching objectives and actual teaching results,although progress has been made combining practice and research.The paper delves into the current teaching impasses and the reasons behind,with an introduction of ‘ living education' proposed by Tao Xingzhi to try to infuse more vitality and vigor into teaching.The entire paper is divided into four parts:The preface includes the general thesis,research methodology and implications.The second part provides insight into the concept of ‘living education' provided byTao Xingzhi,with a focus upon its historical context,procedures and details.The third part relates to the ability of assuming a critical attitude towards historical materials and its current teaching application.It touches upon the ability of critical attitude towards historical materials and the current teaching applications.The fourth part closely examines the application of ‘ Living' education by TaoXingzhi in helping students to adopt a critical attitudes towards historical materials.It mainly covers there aspects from the perspectives of teachers,historical materials and teaching method.
