Family structure has seems to have a great impact on children education in different way in Tanzania. This can take children to other perspective in school life, personal life as well as social life. In Tanzania the value of education is known to many people. Schools have taken a duty of being advocates of educational values through their slogans, like "education is the bridge","education is a key of life", and many other slogans. Despite the fact that several studies have reported on children education challenges, previously studies hardly provide any information on the impact of family structure on children education in Tanzania. Thus this study was designed to research impact of family structure on children’s education.The thesis is divided in five chapters. Chapter one is the background, the statement of the problem, objectives, significance and scope of the study. Chapter two is divided in to two subsections namely: Literature Review and Theoretical flame work. Chapter three provides the information of the process of data collection by documentary review of school attendance and investigation of parents through questionnaire to their children’s education process. Chapter four presents into three main sections including findings and a detailed discussion in relationship between the types of family structure and children school attendance, to assess the impact of family structure on children academic performance and to find out the perception of people on family structure and children education.The last chapter of this thesis makes a summary of the whole study and it provides the general conclusion and recommendations for further related studies. The study found that children from two parents family were94.7%school progress than students from single parent family which was58.8%and those from "Nyumba ntobhu family (special family category in Tanzania) structure which was43.4%. It is obvious that people are encouraged to find that two parent families is an ideal family structure for children development and for the wellbeing of their children.
