Writing has been becoming more and more important in the native language learning with the development of the Educational Reform recently, which can be shown in the following two aspects. First, the writing part plays a big role in the College Entrance Examination, of which one third belongs to it. Second, what the graduates need in their life and work in the future, according to the New curriculum in China, is that they have the ability to express themselves clearly. Only writing can help them do well.However, instructing high school students how to write is indeed a difficulty in the Chinese learning for the teachers. Writing essays is also a challenge for students. The fact is that few of them can benefit a lot from the writing class taught. Meanwhile, even fewer teachers might take pleasure in teaching writing. In order to make sure the reasons for this, I made a survey in the form of questionnaire with regard to high school students’writing problems. The subjects involved in the investigation are a total of300students from No. Eleven High School, Chang Chun, which is a first-class high school all over Ji Lin Province.The students in this school are well-known for the hard working and smart. Two approaches are adopted in the research:a questionnaire and personal interviews. The statistics from the tests has further proved that high school students’writing skills can be improved with the help of the teachers.After examining the effects of various factors on high school students’writing ability, this thesis is meant to provide some insights into the way high school students actually write their essays in the mother tongue. It is expected that some aspects of writing strategies can help students improve their writing skills and scores as well as the teachers improve their teaching competence.This thesis is composed of the following four chapters and it proceeds in the following way:Chapter one reports the relevant theoretical foundation of this study, including a brief review of the writing theory,present and past.Chapter two the investigation was conducted to get a generally idea concerning the subject. And the questionnaire was designed as short as possible and the words used are clear and easy to answer.Chapter Three analyzes and discusses the result of the questionnaire and point out the reasons why senior high school students have those problems in writing.Chapter Four is the important part of this thesis, in which the causes for these writing factors involved are given a profound analysis and a lot of practical writing skills have been put forward based on the research result for the teachers and students respectively.The last part concludes the thesis. The limitation of the study, solutions and suggestions for future research are pointed out.
