With the increasingly frequent Chinese and foreign economic and technologicalexchanges in people’s everyday life, English has become very important. Under thissituation, if students tend to improve their knowledge of the language and enrich theirvocabulary, and increasingly enhance the ability to think and analyze, reading plenty ofEnglish materials is one of the most efficient and effective ways. By reading, studentscan obtain information and learn language knowledge. As a result, reading is one of themost important channels of monitoring and controlling language input. The input oftarget language plays an important role in foreign language teaching, affecting theteaching outcomes directly. However,in the current overall situation,the students’English reading ability is not ideal. Most students cannot meet the English curriculumstandards. So changing this status is imminent. How to use the input to enable studentsto get the best acquisition is extremely important.In this paper,the author used4tools: a questionnaire survey, an interview, apedagogical experiment and two tests, mainly to study the significance and theapplication of Krashen’s Input Hypothesis Theory to English reading teaching in seniorhigh school. The respondents are Senior One students. The questionnaire focuses onthe classroom input condition in high school, the choosing of reading materials,after-class reading activities and the teachers’ roles. The interview is conducted afterthe students have completed the questionnaire,16students are willing to cooperate toanswer five semi-open questions in Chinese. The findings reveal the status of foreignlanguage reading input. The pedagogical experiment is conducted as a test of theteaching method the authors used. Finally,the paper proposes some useful advices: tochoose the comprehensible material including different genres; to teach both linguisticand schematic knowledge; to make sure students get the proper quality and quantity ofthe comprehensible input and combine the input and output.
