Reading is one of the most useful ways to get information, and also it is the importantskill to acquire the language. Language teaching in our country lacks the actual languagesurrounding; the only way to make students get close to the target language is by reading.Though reading, students will get lots of information, know the western culture and currentnews, which could broaden their horizon, and increase students’ interests on learning English.Meanwhile, reading will have a positive effect on other skills, such as listening, writing, andspeaking.In foreign language teaching, reading is the important skill, just as Carrell says, for mostlearners, reading is the most important part in the other skills, such as listening, writing, andspeaking.(Carrell,1989). Therefore, to foster students’ reading ability lays the top position inthe teaching goals.New Curriculum Standard was carried out by Ministry of Education in the July,2001,which put forward the higher standards, according to the New Curriculum Standard, students,the ability of using English of graduates from junior school should achieve at the fifth level,in which the reading ability describes as following:(1) understanding the meaning of the newwords by inferring and regulation of the composition of words.(2) Understanding the logicalrelationship of each paragraph.(3) Find the main theme of the passage, understand the mainplot of the passage, and can forecast the ending of it.(4) Be able to read the regular style ofthe reading material.(5) Be able to use different reading skills to deal with different readingstyle.(6) Be able to use dictionary to study.(7) Apart from the textbook, the amount ofreading after school should reach at15000words. Therefore, reading is the basic way to getinformation, according to statistics, about95percentage of the knowledge get though byreading. Improving the reading ability is the most important task for each student in juniorschool.The research is to see if the Krashen’s comprehensible input has position effect onEnglish teaching in junior school, and to see if there is some problems appear in currentEnglish teaching, therefore, this thesis is to use the literature review and practical research to go into the problems mention above.In order to reveal the common laws and reliability of the whole population, the authorselects the junior one student in Suzhou industrial park Lianhua School as the subjects of thestudy. Before the study, the pre-test and questionnaires are taken by the subjects. The pre-testis taken from mid-term examination in the previous grade. The results of the pre-test andquestionnaire are compared with the results of the post-test and questionnaires after test. Thestudy lasts whole term. The author selects two classes, one class is the experimental class, andthe other is the controlled class, in the controlled class, which taught in the traditional way;while in the experimental class taught in the improved way mentioned above. The results ofthe study show that students in the experimental class make greater progress in Englishreading than students in the controlled class.
