After nearly30years of development, collegiate athletes have made tremendousachievements. In2010, the State Council forwarded the “Instruction on FurtherStrengthening the Athletes’ Education and Athlete Security Work", clearly shiftingfocus on strengthening education for athletes, and other measures combined to createjob opportunity for athletes. The cultural education and security work of collegiateathletes directly related to the healthy and sustainable development of sports industry.Shanghai is China’s earlier approved pilot city for collegiate athletes team.Looking back on the past two decades’ pilot program, Shanghai collegiate teams notonly make an impressive progress in local and national university sports games butalso in world university games. Along with high performance sports teams, universitysports have been effectively promoted. However, the operation issues of universityathletes, especially education problems, gradually get worsened.The study is based on literature, questionnaires, expert interviews, statistics andother methods. Based on the development of Shanghai’s university sports, the overallanalysis of current situation focuses on the investigation of the status quo of collegiateathletes cultural education. To sum up, the conclusion of this study is:First, after20years of joint efforts, Shanghai high-level sports teams haveremarkable results, creating a group of colleges and universities in a leading positionin high-level sports teams.Second, student’s education is weak, esp. those Shanghai University athletes;athletes’ learning and training contradictions are still prominent, lack of enougheducation, student interests in learning; unreasonable high level athletes universitycurriculum, and lack of relevance and practicality.Third, the main factors affecting the education level of Shanghai’s collegiateathletes is: before entering school, athletes and education foundation is weak, studyhabits is poor and the ability to learn is blow average level; education is lack ofprofessional training mode; After graduation, targeted career guidance is lack ofcareer planning.The suggestions of this study is:First, from the administrative department of education level: to enhance top-leveldesign and to create a sound management system for high-level athletes.Second, from the Higher Education level: integrate internal and externalresources to enhance the pertinence of high-level athletes training.Third, from the student subjective level: optimize learning attitudes and habits,improve the self-learning ability of high-level athletes.Fourth, from the parents’ synergy levels: coordinate with the training objectivesand make career plans for high-level athletes.Fifth, five in one: multi-party coordination, build high-level athletes regulatorymechanisms for cultural educatio.
