Wang Guowei is the world-famous scholar in the20th century. He is not onlysucceed in the field of philosophy, literature, history, archaeology, but also ineducation. His theory has the important enlightenment to the development of thecontemporary education.China is in dark and turbulent in the twentieth century.“Rescuing” is the onlytheme of the era. People think that talent is the key to saving the nation, so educationbecomes the hot issue of much attention. But under the social background at that time,education is only a means of saving the nation. Wang Guowei, with his keenobservation, realize this mistake, he think the purpose of education should bepeople-oriented.Wang Guowei advocates academic salvation, so he thinks that the key to thesaving is the training of academic talents. And the key to academic talents is thecharacter of culture. Freedom of thought and independence of personality is the lifegoal of Wang Guowei, also the culture character of an intellectual. Humanisticeducation is the way to achieve this goal, it’s specific content mainly includes: thepurpose of cultivating all-round development of people; the perspective of curriculumof philosophy and art; beyond the utilitarian view of aesthetic education ideas; priorityto the development of higher education. At the same time, Wang Guowei’s humanisticeducation thought contains rich philosophy: the spirit of independence and freedom ofthought; the pursuit of the value of the use of useless; both Chinese and westernculture field of vision and an scientific research attitude.Althought Wang Guowei’s humanistic education thought is buried for specifichistorical reasons, its humanistic orientation has profound enlightenment significancefor the development of modern education.
