With the development of economy, China’s contact with the international community increases more and more. When people from many foreign countries gradually learn Chinese, Chinese people also pay more attention to the widely used language----English. They realize that not only academic people need to learn English, ordinary people should also begin to learn English because of the internationalization of China. When adults learn English on daily life in a variety of ways so that they can communicate with foreigners in business and other field, there are also a large group people who spend more time and effort learning English, it is the students. In most parts of China, English is taught and learned as a subject from Grade Three in primary schools until the students enter the university, and it is still a compulsory course even for those non-English majors. English is so popular and valued that there are countless scholars carried out or are carrying out investigations on English learning. They have different degrees of attention to different ages and different study purposes. And the author mainly studies the present situation of the junior high school students’ English learning, their learning motivation and the strategies to inspire their motivation. The research questions are:1) What are the influencing factors of different kinds of learning motivation?2) What are the strategies of inspiring English learning motivation? To base the research on a factual foundation, the experiment will be made in the paper, which includes a questionnaire survey and an interview. In this study, the author carries out the research in a key middle school in Kuerle of Xinjiang. Ninety students from two kinds of classes and three grades are investigated through the questionnaire. The author uses SPSS13.0to analyze the, data, and compares and summarize the junior high school students’English learning motivation. At the same time, the author uses interviews to carry out a face-to-face communication with30extern and resident students, and chooses top students, average students and underachievers as a typical case, altogether six students. The author shows the different situations students face in learning English in a intuitive and vivid way.Through this research, the author finds that junior high students’English learning motivation varies as the change of age, and the external environment also influences it. At the same time, it is also related with parents’and teachers’attitude and attention to the students. For teachers, they should study their students and the teaching materials and develop a suitable teaching plan. They should also use appropriate teaching methods. In addition, teachers should adjust their methods timely based on students’ different characteristics in different periods. They should also give different care and guidance to students of different levels, and help them to have clear learning goals and correct learning motivation. Parents should also pay more attention to their children. It is necessary to offer them abundant materials. It is also important to focus on the children’s spiritual life and their inner world. Parents should strengthen the communication with them to guide children to set up correct world outlook and the outlook on life and values, in order to make them grow up happily and healthily. The thesis is organized in the following five chapters.Chapter One is a general introduction of the background and the significance of the study.
