The knowledge economy era is the era of science and technology innovation and talentcompetition, so education needs to foster strong practical ability and creation ability of talents. Newcurriculum standard of senior high school geography advocates cultivating the future citizens’ necessarygeographical ability, and attaches great importance to the study of geographical problem. Geography is apractical discipline and closely related to our life. Geography experiments are practical investigation ofpractical ability. As an effective teaching method, geography experiment teaching can not only makestudents clear and master the geographical knowledge, also can develop the students’ geographical ability.Students can acquire both the theory knowledge and the experiment ability, and finally improve theircomprehensive quality. However, a part of teacher’s teaching idea is backward and they lack the geographyexperiment knowledge; some schools’ experiment facility and equipment are backward; the high schoolgeography class time is limited. These make the geography experiments not valued. So, senior high schoolgeography experiment teaching situation is worrying.Geography experiment plays an important role in current geography teaching. Scholars havestarted the discussion of the geography experiment teaching. Based on the constructivism theory, discoverylearning theory and the theory of multiple intelligences, using literature analysis, interview survey,experiment method, questionnaire investigation and statistical analysis research methods, the author takesgeography compulsory course1for an example, and makes the study on the senior high school geographyexperiment teaching.Through reading, analyzing and inducting the literature related geography experiment teaching,the author has the systematic knowledge of domestic and foreign research progress. Current research on thegeography experiment teaching mainly reflects in the function and significance of geography experimentteaching, the content and type of geography experiment, the mode of geography experiment teaching, andempirical research of geography experiment teaching. Among them, the research on the function andsignificance of the geography experiment is detail; the type of geography experiment is mentioned lot; systematic study of geography experiment contents is lack; very few scholars involve in geographyexperiment teaching mode; the empirical study of geography experiment teaching needs further perfecting.In view of the experience and problems of existing research, the author through interviewing front-lineteachers, combining with the actual situation of the current senior high school, summarizes experimentsaccording to the textbook chapters and experiment types respectively. And put forward specific experimentdesign process of common experiment types, including the experiment content, experiment preparation,experiment process, experiment conclusion and experiment evaluation. Then, based on the experimentcontent and experiment design, nearly a semester experiment was carried out in Pingdingshan first seniorhigh school. The experimental result shows that the geography experiment teaching can improve the qualityof geography teaching. In the final exam, the experimental class’ geography average grade is about threepoints higher than that of comparative class. After the experiment, through questionnaire, the authorunderstands responses to develop and implement geography experiment teaching of the experimental class’students, which further verify the effectiveness of the geography experiment teaching. Survey results showthat the geography experiment teaching can improve students’ interest in geography learning; it can helpstudents grasp of the geographical knowledge, especially that needs to understand and memory ofknowledge; it can improve the students’ ability of geography, especially the drawing diagrams ability,logical thinking ability and memory ability. Geography experiment teaching is widely accepted by students,and almost all of them hope to continue to carry on this teaching method.The innovation of this paper has two points. First, detailed summary of geography experimentcontent and concrete experiment design of the common experiments type make the implementation of thegeography experiment teaching viable. Second, using the method of questionnaire survey to further verifythe effectiveness of the geography experiment teaching, combined with the qualitative experiment andquantitative analysis, the experiment results are more rigorous and scientific.
