Physics experiment plays an important role as well as position and function in teaching physics; it’s a foundation, content, method and important means in teaching physics. Strengthen physics’experiment and its teaching have a significance in physics teaching and its teaching reform.This paper studied from the curriculum standard of middle-school physic, Physics laboratory equipment requirements High school science teaching instrument equipped with standard-standards, Ningxia hui autonomous region laboratory construction standard of primary and secondary schools, Survey form and questionnaire though actual investigation and by taking photos in southern mountainous region of Ningxia, including 12 general senior secondary school in 8 counties and one region. This paper is carried out in order to know the condition of the laboratory resources allocation in the first new-curriculum-reform pilot areas, the influence of the laboratory facilities on teaching, and the expectations of teachers and students toward experimental teaching.The researching included as four aspects:First, physics laboratory and laboratory instruments and equipment. Laboratory items included general physics laboratory, Digital Lab, exploring the number and size of the laboratory, equipment rooms and preparation rooms; experimental chairs, instrument cabinets, demo units and the number of units ready; the number of experimental teachers’academic and professional titles. Laboratory instruments mainly for measuring quality, mechanical, electromagnetic instruments.Second, high school physics experiment. Including the four experiments (presentations, group, quiz, extracurricular experiments) that they have or why they haven’t, the investigation focused on compulsory and elective modules 3-1.Third, the physical teachers’ real teaching situation. Including the southern mountains area of Ningxia high school physic s teacher’ attitude, physics experiment classes’ processing, laboratory equipment and laboratory evaluation ways. Students’ attitudes toward the laboratory and its instrument.The last is students experiment situations and their feedback.Including students’ attitudes and operational processes and their expectations in the experiment.The results were showed that:First, the number and area of physics laboratories of the majority schools meet the general standard stated in National Standards for Physics Laboratory Equipment and the secondary standard of Laboratory Construction Standard for Middle and Primary School of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Laboratory digitization and research laboratory equipment have both been facilitated, with half of the schools are equipped with digital or research laboratories, whose area have met the provincial and the national standards. Although all the lab tables and stools are up to the standard, only 16.7% of the instruction cases, prep stands and lab assistants meet the standard.Second, although laboratory apparatuses generally meet the primary standard stipulated in Catalog of Science Teaching Apparatuses for Middle School issued by the Ministry of Education in 2000, only 33.3% schools meet the Science Teaching Apparatus Standard for Senior High School issued by the Ministry of Education in 2010. The first class demonstration senior high schools in the autonomous region enjoy rational allocation of equipment, while the second class demonstration senior high schools and general senior high schools lack lab equipment both in variety and in number, especially demonstrative experiment and some group experiment apparatuses.Third, laboratory facilities and other teaching resources are not effectively used, with many of them being in idle. Teachers are not highly engaged in making experiment teaching aids, only the first class demonstration senior high schools keep their self-made teaching aids, including those for watching the movement of the red wax block and small deformation, hourglass, serpentine pendulum, and other simple ones. The self-made teaching aids were lost during the relocation of the second class demonstration senior high schools in the autonomous region. In experimental teaching, teachers still focus on one textbook instead of referring to other editions. Moreover, the electronic whiteboard, multimedia and digital laboratory are not effectively used by the teachers in demonstrative experimental teaching, which leads to the fact that a part of the students can not fully understand the experiments.Fourth, the physics experiments the senior high schools in the the south mountainous regionin Ningxia conduct account for a large proportion of the total number of the physics experiments. Among the 41 experiments, they carry out the whole demonstrative experiments,78.04% group experiments,48.78% classroom experiments and 65.85% extra-curricular experiments. The main reasons for the failure to carry out the remaining experiments are the lack of equipment and the replacement of experiment by lecturing.Fifth, experimental teaching is well-organized by physics teachers:a. The teachers have positive attitude. Being student-centered, they guide their students to do experiments and make them actively engaged in the experiments they conduct.b. Although the students are not allowed to carry out experiments according to their heart’s desire,52.63% teachers let the students conduct the experiments by their own design.c. When there are something wrong happened during the experiments,63.16% teachers choose to first make the students analyze the reasons and guide them to remove the obstacles.d. Physics teachers have a more complete and comprehensive understanding of experimental appraise.60.53% teachers evaluate the experiments based mainly on the performance of the students, especially their operationally abilities.Sixth, the students hold high expectations toward physics experiments:a.The majority of students have great interest in physics experiments, especially the challenging research experiments.b.They pay great attention to physics experiments. And although they can make initiative analyses about the failures in experiments, they do not do well in experiment preparation.c.60.3% students hope for more experiments and laboratories and that schools open their laboratories more often so that they can do experiments by themselves and improve their operational abilities.
