Learning difficulty or learning disabilities refers to the children that own normalintelligence, but have difficulty learning in school. Learning difficulty is commonphenomenon, especial at the primary education stage. Delay discounting refers to apsychological phenomenon that the current subjective value of a future reward decreases asthe delay. Existing delay discounting studies mostly focus on adults. Delay of gratificationresearches mostly focus on children. There are rarely researches exploring the delaydiscounting of children. Delay gratification and delay discounting are closely related. Delaygratification is predicted by delay discounting and delay discounting can explain delaygratification from the view of quantitative point. How delay discounting of children withlearning disabilities is, if there exist obviously differences between children with learningdisabilities and normal children. We could explore these problems. This study selected children from grade4and grade6as the research participants andcards chose as the experimental material presenting method. Discounting rate k andArea-under-the-curve were used as delay discounting measures. On the basis of past research,we explored the delay discounting of children, compared children with learning disabilitiesand normal children. The first experiment studied the differences of delay discountingbetween children with learning disabilities and normal children on hypothetical money. Thesecond experiment aimed to discuss the domain effect of delay discounting between childrenwith learning disabilities and normal children. The third experiment explored the magnitudeeffect of delay discounting between children with learning disabilities and normal childrenThe results are as follows:(1) The indifference point and delay discounting rate between children with learningdisabilities and normal children are significantly different. The delay discounting rate K ofchildren with learning disabilities is higher than normal children. The Area-under-the-curve ofchildren with learning disabilities is lower than normal children.(2) The delay discounting of children with learning disabilities and normal children aredifferent in money, food, entertainment and time. (3) The delay discounting of children with learning disabilities and normal children aredifferent in different hypothetical money.
