Influence Of Hollywood Movies On Chinese College Students’ Values And Its Countermeasures

In the Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, President HuJintao explicitly pointed out the significance of cultural soft power to national comprehensivestrength. It was reported that, Culture is the nation s blood. It is the spiritual home of thepeople. To build a well-off society in an all-round way and realize the great rejuvenation ofthe Chinese nation, we must promote the great development and prosperity of socialistculture, rise new upsurge of socialist culture construction, and enhance national cultural softpower to lead the fashion, educate the people, serve the society, and promote thedevelopment. So it further clarified that, nowadays, with the increasing globalization and theconflict and blend of cultures, the significance and position of culture in the competition ofnational comprehensive strength is improving.Hollywood movie is one of the American important carriers of the spread of westernvalues. It has been about20years since the first Hollywood movie named The Fugitivescreened in China till now. During these20years, Hollywood movies have increasinginfluences among teenagers, especially college students on values, mode of thinking, lifestyle, behavior, etc. College students, as the future of the a country, the correctness of theirvalues relates to the country s fate and national safety closely and directly. In the case, whichwestern cultural values invade us crazily, how to make college students set up correctoutlook on life, world view, and values? How to treat Hollywood movies correctly? Thesekinds of problems are worthy of attention and study.The object of this paper is Hollywood movie, a cultural product. By researching on theideology, cultural connotation, and business operation pattern reflected in Hollywood movies,this paper aims to explore the influence of western cultural values delivered in those movieson college students, and propose appropriate solutions and countermeasures. This paperconsists of four parts. Part one interprets Hollywood movies from two dimensions: cultureand business. Part two states the spread and acceptance situation of Hollywood moviesamong college students by analyzing the data collected from questionnaires and interviews.Part three analyzes the influence of Hollywood movies on values of college students on thebasis of the collected data. Part four draws a conclusion of the whole paper and then exploresappropriate ways and strategies for the current challenges.
